The Delhi High Court has agreed to hear a petition seeking directions to the Centre and the Lieutenant-Governor to fill the post of a judge at the Saket District Court here.

The post has been lying vacant since January this year.

The petition, filed by two law students, said hearings related to several family conflicts were getting adjourned as the post of the principal judge, responsible for family disputes from Delhi’s south-east district, was unoccupied.

‘Speedy justice’

In their plea, law students Yashasavi Singh and Sharique Firoz said access to speedy justice will be denied if the position is not filled soon.

The petitioners told the court that they came to know about the situation from one of the clients of the law firm where they has worked as interns.

A High Court Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar said it will hear the petition in October this year.
