Siddha practitioners’ plea

more-in

The Madurai Siddha Vaidhya Sangam approached the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday seeking its reinstatement to a building owned by Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple.

The petitioner, S. Gurunathan of Madurai, said that the Siddha sangam was operating from the building located on the Travellers Bungalow Road which was leased out to it in 1960. The sangam, a non-commercial entity, used the premises to treat patients and it was regularly paying rent.

An eviction notice was served in 2015 in which rent arrears was shown. Subsequently, the sangam was evicted in 2016. A writ petition filed before the High Court Bench challenging the eviction notice was dismissed after a misrepresentation was made stating the sangam as defunct, he said.

He sought the reinstatement of the sangam, which is now operating from South Marret Street, in the temple building.

Justice M. S. Ramesh directed notice to the temple authorities and adjourned the case.
