FAIZABAD: Being lodged in a
jail did not dampen the
birthday celebrations of Shivendra Singh, an
undertrial booked for attempt to murder in
Faizabad.
In a video that has since gone viral, Singh can be seen cutting a cake in front jail barracks on his birthday on July 23.
Charged under Gangster Act, Singh appeared in court on Saturday for a hearing and talked to the media about his birthday party in jail.
"On the payment of Rs 1 lakh to jailor Vinay Kumar Dubey, he provided all items - cake, candles, knife, lighter - to me for my birthday.
Later, on July 27, just five minutes before a raid by Faizabad
district magistrate and SSP, the jail staff collected all prohibited items from prisoners' possession," said Singh.
He alleged that all prisoners pay money to jail authorities to get facilities. They also use mobile phones openly. "Prisoners who cannot pay money suffer," he said. "The video of my birthday celebrations was made by jailor Dubey himself in the presence of his staff. The jailor told me that he would give the video to me after my release. The video has been leaked by his staff," claimed Singh.
Faizabad district magistrate Anil Kumar Pathak said, "An investigation has been ordered in the incident."
Shivendra's counsel Martand Pratap Singh said that the life of his client was in danger as 'nothing was going right in jail'.
