Mercedes-AMG GT 4 Coupe Makes Sweet V8 Music While Testing At The Track

Although the GT 4-Door Coupe was officially launched in Geneva earlier this doesn’t mean that Mercedes-AMG is done with it.

In fact, development seems to be continuing right up to the last moment, with a few production-ready models being scooped at the Nurburgring recently.

The reason behind the latest testing session appears to have two clear goals: some last-minute fine tuning and probably making sure that everything works as it’s supposed to, prior to its launch in Europe in the coming weeks, and in the USA early next year.

With the new GT 4-Door Coupe, Mercedes-AMG is targeting those looking for a sporty executive sedan equipped with Affalterbach’s latest and greatest technology. The car will also serve as the successor of the old AMG CLS 63, which won’t be making an appearance in the third-gen CLS.

The new four-door coupe could punch a hole in the ozone layer, thanks to its extremely powerful twin-turbo V8 engine. In top form, the GT 4-Door Coupe puts out 639PS (630hp / 470kW) and 900Nm (664lb-ft) of torque, which are channeled to both axles through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The 0-100km/h (0-62mph) is dispatched in just 3.2 seconds, while top speed stands at 315km/h (196mph). This makes it the it the most powerful Merc money can buy right now, excluding of course the Project One, which a. isn’t in production just yet, and b. is an altogether different beast.
