HYDERABAD: The state of roads in Allwyn Colony is in such pathetic shape that even the TSRTC has cancelled to ply buses into the ward. For the residents, every second road is ‘your tax money rupees at work’ giving the locals a spine-breaking ride.
Close to 80 per cent of the roads in the ward have turned out to be a nightmare for the locals due to the ongoing repair works. While it can be thought of that the repair and relaying of roads is a sign towards progress, locals allege that the works have been happening for over four years now.
“The road repairs are happening for over two years now. The four buses that would ply during the peak hours have stopped coming since the works began forcing us to walk extra kilometres to reach to the nearest bus stop,” said Ilaiah Goud, a local. On Saturday, when Express visited the ward, a three-kilometre stretch in Phase 2 is devoid of a road. There was even an open drainage, without any caution signals, on the stretch risking the lives of motorists.
Areas like Chandramani Nagar, Papama Basthi, Panchimi Basthi, Venkata Papaya Nagar, and Mahankali Nagar in the area are affected due to the poor roads. Even the recent spell of rains saw the drainage pipelines break.
Between Yellamabanda and Janmabhoomi Colony also the works are pending for four years now. “We are not considered to be humans in the ward. My brother laughs at the shape of the roads and draws a comparison that village roads in Raghopur in Narayankhed are better than here,” said V Prashanth, a tech professional. The drainage network in the ward is also devoid of maintenance turning it to be a breeding spot for mosquitoes and pigs. Even in front of the area corporations office, one can see pigs breeding.
“All of the roads would see a white topping and I assure that the works would be completed within two to three months for development works to be seen. In some cases we have cancelled proposals to lay single road while getting allocations for double-lane roads to be laid,” said D Venkatesh Goud, corporator of Allwyn Colony.
