Man lynched in Gujarat over suspicion of theft

The victim Ajmal Vahonia, and the aide Bhadu Mathur were thrashed by a mob that suspected them to be mobile phone thieves.

A 22-year-old man was beaten to death by a mob in Gujarat’s Dahod district while his aide was seriously injured and is said to be critical in a local hospital in the tribal-dominated region.

The deceased had 32 cases of theft, robbery and rioting against him while Mathur was also named as accused in several cases and both were released from jail recently.

The police have launched probe in the case while filing a murder case against a mob in Kali Mahudi village. “We have registered a case and probe is under way,” a police inspector in Dahod said. Th accused are yet to be identified by the police.

 

According to the FIR, a mob of around 30 people reportedly thrashed the two. While Vahonia died on the spot, Mathur was seriously injured and was rushed to local hospital after the police arrived in the village late on July 27.

Meanwhile, villagers and local residents claimed that a gang of about 20 persons attacked their village with the intention of robbery at midnight and when people woke up and gathered near a shop, they managed to catch hold of the two of them, who were then mercilessly beaten up while the others managed to flee from the spot.
