In an attempt to clamp down on people travelling without tickets, the Bengaluru division of Southern Railway on Saturday introduced a Special Ticket Checking Drive, called Fortress Check at Yeshwantpur and KSR Bengaluru Railway stations.
On the first day, within 18 hours of commencement, officials caught 1,174 travellers without tickets and imposed penalties totalling to ₹4,07,000 on them. Nearly 160 staff and four to five officers were involved in the operation from 3.00 a.m. to 11.30 p.m.
Sridharamurthy N.S., Senior DCM, Bangalore-KSR, said, “We are saddened to see passengers travelling without tickets and the number of such cases increasing every year.”
