MANGALURU: Even a week after the death of nurse Hazel Jyotsna Mathias in Saudi Arabia, her husband and family are still in the dark about the cause for her untimely death. If all necessary procedures go according to the law of the land, her mortal remains are likely to reach hometown Udupi in two weeks.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy officials in Saudi Arabia have been passing the buck in the matter pertaining to the mysterious death of 28-year-old Jyotsna. Indian Embassy officials at Riyadh say the matter is under investigation by police. ``The Consular General of India (CGI), Jeddah is in touch with the Attorney. Our Committee of Community Welfare members in Al Baha are also pursuing the matter,’’ said the officials when TOI sought the status. Earlier Riyadh Embassy officials had stated that since Al-Baha comes under the jurisdiction of CGI, Jeddah, the mail (written by TOI) was forwarded for necessary action.

In another tweet to this reporter Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia replied: Matter under investigation; our Jeddah Office @CGIJeddah is actively following up the matter.

Ashwin Mathias, husband of Jyotsna, speaking to TOI on recent developments said that he is clueless about his wife’s death or when the mortal remains would reach them. ”We have been able to contact Ministry of External Affairs officials through people’s representatives. The officials have reportedly told us that police from Saudi Arabia have been investigating the case. I have given power of attorney to one of my cousin working in Saudi Arabia to pursue the case and carry out necessary documentation,” he said.

Jyotsna was working in Al Miqua General Hospital in Abha province, Jeddah from last six years. Her last conversation with her family members and husband was on July 19. Two days later her family received shocking news that she was no more.

It is alleged that her death was due to suicide but family denied that theory. They pointed out that Jyotsna was a strong girl and no such possibility.
