CHENNAI: Taking a cue from history-sheeter Binu’s birthday celebrations, a 21-year-old youth cut a cake using a machete on his birthday on July 21. The MGR Nagar police, who saw the video being shared on social media, apprehended Sathish from his house in Jafferkhanpet on Thursday before a court sent him to jail.
Police said Sathish’s friends decided to surprise him on his birthday. On July 21, they ordered a cake, gave him a machete and asked him to cut it.

The five friends took a video of Sathish cutting the cake and uploaded the same on social media platforms. In the video, the youth, seen in a blue shirt, is seen cutting the cake and playing with the machete. All the five young men can be seen throwing pieces of cake at each other.

With the help of inputs from residents of the locality, they nabbed Sathish. He was booked under Section 7 (I) (a) of the Criminal Law Amendment Act (causing nuisance to public). “His act in the video appeared scary and threatening. He was found using a weapon to cut a cake, which is not advisable. This will influence other youth and attract unnecessary trouble,” said a police officer.
