Constable nabs thief after chase on Marina

A police constable attached to the Armed Reserve Police chased a mobile phone snatcher for over a km on the Marina and arrested him.

On Thursday night, Vidya, 35, was talking over her mobile phone near the Labour Statue on the Marina. A suspect who was watching her movements suddenly snatched the phone and started running.

The police constable, Rajadurai, who was on duty, spotted the offender and chased him on the sands for a kilometre, nabbed him, recovered the mobile and gave it back to Vidya.

Investigation revealed that the offender was the ex-husband of the woman and they had divorced two years ago.

Gang held

On Friday, North Beach police on Friday arrested six persons, including a husband and wife who stole mobiles from persons sleeping on the platforms in Mannady.

The same day, Velachery Police nabbed a 26-year-old mobile snatcher who operated in MTC buses. He was jobless and took it as a profession, the police said.

Mambalam police also apprehended two suspects who attempted to sell stolen mobile phones in Sathya Bazaar.
