The District Child Protection Unit [DCPU] with assistance of police on Thursday raided a nursing home functioning near the District Headquarters Hospital [DHH] here and rescued two infants aging below two months.

Following direction of Child Welfare Committee [CWC], the kids were shifted to the DHH for treatment.

Relying on an anonymous mobile call that two infants were kept in the nursing home for selling, the District Child Protection Officer and CWC members raided the nursing home and rescued the kids, one male and another a girl. They were in the custody of the nursing home in the absence of their parents and two health workers were caring them.

When nursing home owner Dr Paramananda Acharya was questioned, he replied that the girl child was born on June 18. Her mother keeping the newborn under care of a nurse had gone to Mumbai to receive her husband who works in Dubai. However, he failed to divulge details of the second child.

Health Department officials found that the nursing home had been shut for past few months owing to non-renewal of its licence.
