Attributes it to the stubborn attitude of Centre, State

Expressing shock over the suicide of a weaver, Sudhakar Yadav, in support of the Special Category Status (SCS) in Madanapalle on Saturday, APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy exhorted the activists of the SCS movement not to resort to such acts, but wage a spirited fight for achieving the genuine rights of the Telugu people.

Mr. Raghuveera Reddy rushed to Madanapalle on coming to know about the weaver’s “sacrifice” and participated in the funeral procession.

‘Cong. will

fulfil promise’

Addressing the media later, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said the Congress, under the leadership of party president Rahul Gandhi, would definitely form the government at the Centre soon and grant SCS to Andhra Pradesh on the very first day of assuming power.

Terming the weaver’s extreme step as unfortunate, he said it was not a suicide, but a murder committed by the State government. He attributed it to the stubborn attitude of both the Central and State governments on the issue.

He demanded payment of ₹25 lakh as compensation to the next of kin of Sudhakar.

He said that the youth in Andhra Pradesh were an impoverished lot without any employment or empowerment schemes.

In the last four years, seven activists had sacrificed their lives for the rights of Andhra Pradesh, he said.

Earlier, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy spoke to the family members of Sudhakar Yadav and assured them of all assistance from the party.
