Two infants rescued by Child Welfare Committee from Odisha clinic

JAGATSINGHPUR: Officials of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and local police rescued two infants from a private nursing home here on Thursday. The Health Department has issued a closure notice to the nursing home that is owned by one Paramanada Acharya and is run without a licence.
On a tip-off about child trafficking racket being run from the nursing home, CWC officials and police raided the facility and rescued two infants - a month-old girl and a 15-day-old boy.
During interrogation, a doctor in the clinic informed that mothers of the children were poor and had left them in the clinic for rehabilitation. Suspecting foul play, the officials took the infants and admitted them to District Headquarters Hospital. Their health condition is normal.
Additional District Medical Officer (medical), Maheswer Pradhan said since the clinic is operating without a licence, the Health Department has decided to close it. District Child Protection Officer Kanhu Charan Rout said it appears to be a case of child trafficking. A case against the owner of the nursing home has been lodged with the local police.
