Woman denied post-delivery care in Odisha; Primary Health Centre closed
Immediate medical attention could not be provided to a woman and her newborn as the nearest Primary Health Centre (PHC) was locked and no staff was present on Friday.

ANGUL: Immediate medical attention could not be provided to a woman and her newborn as the nearest Primary Health Centre (PHC) was locked and no staff was present on Friday. According to sources, a pregnant woman, Litina (30) of Deunriajharan village under Bagedia block, had come to Khamara Gramya Bank along with women members of an SHG for work when she developed labour pain and gave birth to a boy.
Some locals took her and the baby to Bagedia PHC, which is just a few metres away. However, there was no doctor or health staff in the locked PHC.
They then informed 108 ambulance service and Litina and her newborn were shifted to Chhenidipada Hospital. Their condition is stable.Chief District Medical Officer RC Garnaik, who rushed to spot, said there is no doctor in the PHC and only health staff are managing it. As the health staff had gone for lunch, the PHC was closed, he added.
