Four newly elected members of the Andhra Pradesh Bar Council (APBC) called for a concerted effort to secure the interests of the advocates, irrespective of their political affiliations, at a felicitation organised by the Bezawada Bar Association (BBA) on Friday.
They observed that their counterparts in other southern States were better off due to the care being taken by the governments there.
APBC member Veluri Srinivasa Reddy said advocates need to strive together for their common good and help the council sort out issues concerning them.
Another member Sunkara Rajendra Prasad said 1% of the court fee in Kerala was allocated for the welfare of advocates, and Karnataka and Tamil Nadu governments gave matching grants.
Telangana example
The Telangana government earmarked ₹100 crore in its budget for advocates’ welfare.
In Andhra Pradesh, the government kept many demands pending in spite of repeated pleas, he said. Differences, if any, among the advocates should be settled amicably, he suggested.
Two other new members – Surabattula Malleswara Rao and Chalasani Ajay Kumar – BBA president K. Satyanarayana Rao, general secretary D. Lakshman Rao and vice-president K.V. Ranga Rao, and senior criminal lawyer Karnati Rammohan Rao were present.
