BHUBANESWAR: In a first-of-its-kind push to boost sports tourism, the State Government has displayed advertisements on city buses of London to promote Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018. The campaign titled ‘Odisha by Morning, Hockey by Evening’ features branded buses showcasing the State as an exciting tourist and sporting destination.
Known as the cradle of hockey in the country, the State boasts of being the title partner for the Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018 while Odisha Tourism is the host partner of the event. The bus advertising activity forms part of a wider marketing campaign. Sports and Tourism Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev said the Hockey World Cup is an exciting opportunity for the State to reveal its beauty as thousands of fans from across the globe are expected to attend the event.
“Through the campaign, we aim to showcase that Odisha is not just a sporting hub, but also an amazing tourism destination. Teams, fans, and tourists who will come down to Odisha in November for the mega sporting event will enjoy the State’s ambiance,” he said. Bus advertising is a proven way of making an impact in a busy city like London. Director of Goddess Advertising, the firm which is in charge of this initiative, Sachin Das Burma said before hockey fans book their tickets, the campaign will encourage them to visit Odisha in huge numbers with their friends and relatives.
“Since all the matches are in the evening, the fans will get enough free time in the morning. Through the campaign, we have tried to convince fans that they don’t just have to hang around in their hotels, but can explore the magnificent tourist places of Odisha,” Das Burma added.
