District in-charge secretary Mohammed Mohsin has said that the State government is planning to create a ‘tourism circuit’ by including the historical monuments of Vijayapura and Bagalkot districts.
Speaking to presspersons during his visit to the city to monitor development works here on Friday, he said that the government wishes to give special attention to these two districts.
“While Vijayapura has monuments built during the Adil Shahi era, Bagalkot has monuments built during the Chalukya era. The circuit will help to promote these monuments,” he asserted.
Elaborating on the plan, Mr. Mohsin said that the government would identify monuments where basic facilities such as accommodation, transportation and other such facilities would be developed.
He said that both districts have an enormous potential for improving tourism.
Concerning the inclusion of the historical monuments of Vijayapura in the UNESCO World Heritage list, the official said that instructions have been issued to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to prepare the detailed report.
Referring to the ongoing works of rejuvenating and cleaning ancient ‘Bawadis’ (open wells), Mr. Mohsin said that around ₹6 crore is being spent for the project.
“After the cleaning of the Bawadis, all the wells would be fitted with RO plans for drinking water and a pipeline will also be attached for drawing water from the well,” he said.
Mr. Mohsin also reviewed the status of the underground drainage work and 24x7 drinking water projects. He instructed the officials to complete the project within time.
