AAP, BJP failed; matter of shame: Congress

The Congress's Delhi unit chief Ajay Maken  said the “tall claims” of the BJP and the AAP of being pro-poor failed to save the lives of three girls, who reportedly died due to starvation here.

Terming the deaths as a matter of “shame”, Maken, who visited Mandawali, said the incident raised questions over the governance of the AAP and the BJP.

“The AAP Government in Delhi that claims to be pro-poor, and the Modi Government which boasts of the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, could not save the lives of three innocent girls,” he said.

Maken asked why the family of the girls had no ration cards and if the eldest girl, who went to school, received mid-day meals.

He also took a dig at the AAP Government over its ambitious Aam Aadmi Canteen Scheme for providing meals to poor, which is yet to take off.

“These questions must be answered since the deaths occurred in the constituency of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia,” Maken said.

The Congress leader was accompanied by former Delhi Ministers Arvinder Lovely, A K Walia and other party leaders.

Maken and the others also provided immediate financial help to the family.

Delhi Congress leader Mukesh Sharma demanded registration of a culpable homicide case against the guilty in the tragic deaths and demanded resignation of Delhi Food minister Imran Hussain.
