Pregnant woman stabbed in home invasion, boy arrested: police
A pregnant woman has been stabbed in the chest and stomach during a violent home invasion at her house in Sydney's north, police say.
A 14-year-old boy has been arrested following the incident at the house on Gloria Close in Mount Colah on Thursday night.
Police said the 33-year-old woman, who was believed to be home alone at the time, disturbed an intruder in her house about 8.50pm.
The intruder stabbed the woman several times in the stomach and chest before fleeing, police said.
The injured woman was able to make it to a neighbour's house, where an ambulance was called.
The woman, who was believed to be in the mid stages of her pregnancy, was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital on Thursday night for treatment. Police said she was in a stable condition on Friday morning.
Chief Inspector David Hogg, from Kuring-Gai Police Area Command, said a 14-year-old boy was arrested about an hour after the attack in a nearby house.
The boy and the woman are not believed to be known to each other.
The boy was taken to Hornsby Hospital, where he is expected to undergo surgery for hand injuries. He is under police guard at the hospital. No charges have been laid.
A crime scene has been set up at the woman's house, which is being forensically examined.
