Lorry stir: Edappadi K Palaniswamy seeks Centre’s intervention

CHENNAI: As the nationwide strike by truckers with a host of demands entered into day six, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy has written to Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari seeking urgent intervention to end the impasse, said Transport Minister MR Vijayabhaskar in Chennai on Thursday.
Addressing press reporters, the minister said that the state government had facilitated the transportation of vegetables and fruits through government buses without any charges. “As the prices of essential commodities are increasing, the Chief Minister sought the Union government’s intervention,” he said.
“The strike has affected the livelihood of many workers who are dependent on this (truck) industry. Many perishable commodities are stagnating due to the ongoing strike,” said the CM.
