Vadodara: Chain-snatchers had a field day in the city as three women were targeted in various areas within 90 minutes on Friday.
Motorcycle-borne men went after senior citizens in Panigate and Navapura. According to police, the first incident occurred between 10.30am and 11.15am, when 62-year-old Damini Pawar was on her way to a temple near Vrajdham Society near Panigate.
Two men on a motorcycle approached her from behind and the pillion rider snatched Pawar’s gold chain, which was worth Rs 45,000. They then zoomed off towards Shreenath Deep Society, where they targeted another woman. The duo then headed towards Kailash Rabari who was walking near the society. The pillion rider snatched her gold chain, worth Rs 15,000, and fled. After half an hour, 65-year-old Sushila Shreechand also lost her gold chain to two chain-snatchers, who police believe were the same two men.
Sushila was near Shakti Krupa Circle in Navapura when the motorcyclist approached her at 11.45am. One of them threatened Sushila, before snatching her gold chain, worth Rs 40,000. Police have registered complaints in all three cases. CCTV footage from around the sites of the snatchings are being scanned.
Five days ago, a woman was targeted by chain-snatchers on Ajwa Road. They snatched Arpita Desai’s gold chain but were later caught. Desai courageously chased the two motorcycle-borne men for 4km and managed to get hold of one of them when their motorcycle slipped. The man was then thrashed by the public and handed over to the police.
