Officials told to complete BRTS, ‘Smart City’ works on time

‘People’s sentiments should be taken into consideration’

Industrial Development Commissioner and district in-charge secretary Darpan Jain has instructed officials concerned to expedite the works of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and ‘Smart City’ projects and ensure that they are completed on time.

Chairing a progress review meeting of development works of the district here on Friday, Mr. Jain said that people’s sentiments should be given consideration before implementing the projects planned under the ‘Smart City’ project. All the works should be started and completed in time. The officials should not neglect their duties and give scope for complaints, he said.

Mr. Jain has instructed the agencies concerned to prepare the blueprint and technical feasibility report of the works like construction of markets, green campuses and development of the Unkal and Tolanakere lakes immediately.

This apart, the works of underground drainage, Mahatama Gandhi Park and Nehru Maidan should be expedited. The comprehensive project reports of the swimming pool and green campuses should be submitted before July 31, he said and added that the Deputy Commissioner would hold a detailed review of the works of installing LED street lights and multi storied parking complex.

Mr. Jain said that of the 12 Indira Canteens proposed in Hubballi-Dharwad, works of nine buildings have been completed so far.

These should be opened at the earliest and the construction of remaining three canteens should be completed fast, he said.

Mr. Jain also instructed the officials concerned to see that the infant mortality rate was brought down further in the district and improve the pass percentage of SSLC and PUC in the district.

Mr. Jain reviewed the programmes of the departments of revenue, agriculture, rural development and panchayat raj, skill development, social welfare, public instructions, backward and minority development, housing, food and civil supplies, health, transport and others on this occasion.

Deputy Commissioner M. Deepa, zilla panchayat chief executive officer Snehal Rayamane, BRTS managing director M. G. Hiremath, HDMC commissioner Shakeel Ahmad and others were present at the meeting.
