CM remembers Kargil martyrs, Vajpayee

The Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has said that Kargil war though fought under extremely adverse circumstances had shown up exemplary courage and intellectual alertness of the members of the Indian Army which resulted in the rout of the enemy. He was speaking at Kargil Martyrs Memorial at Gandhi Park on Thursday. The CM paid glowing tributes to the Kargil martyrs on the occasion of ‘Shaurya Diwas’ and placed floral wreath at the martyrs memorial.

Saluting the sacrifices of the soldiers, he said that whenever required, the brave jawans of the country sacrifice everything to defend motherland. It was thanks to the bravery and valour of the jawans that the frontiers of the country are safe, he said. CM further said that while Kargil war would always be remembered for the bravery shown by the Indian Army,  the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee would also  be remembered for showing immense political will  and determination during the war.

Rawat said that the state government respects the soldiers, ex-servicemen, ‘Veer Naris’ and the families of the martyred soldiers. “We  have appointed SDM as the nodal officer in every district for redressing the problems of the army personnel,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi said that one person each from the family of martyred soldiers would be provided with a Government job in Uttarakhand. He further informed that the state government has provided land and a sum of Rs 2.50 crore for the ‘War Memorial Boys and Girls Hostel’ at Danda Lakhuand on Sahastradhara Road, Dehradun.

On the occasion, CM felicitated the gallantry award- winning soldiers and officers, family members of martyred soldiers and “Veer Naris”.

It was informed in course of the commemorative  programme that 75 out of 527 Indian soldiers and officers martyred during the Kargil war were from  Uttarakhand.

The Minister of State for higher education Dhan Singh Rawat, MLAs-Harbans Kapoor, Khajan Das and Umesh Sharma, Lt Gen O P Kaushik ( Rtd) and Brig. K G Behl (Rtd) were among those who participated in the programme.
