The State government has sanctioned ₹6.37 crore to the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, to take up development works.
According to a release issued by the office of the Health Minister, this is to develop the hospital as a centre of excellence, the need for which was realised during the Nipah outbreak in the district.
A sum of ₹1.75 crore has been allocated for a digital mammogram machine to diagnose breast cancer. A sum of ₹1.62 crore has been earmarked for three high-end 4D ultrasound machines for ante-natal scanning, and ₹40 lakh for purchasing X-ray machines for the proposed cancer centre.
The number of ventilators will go up to 58 from 35. MLAs had earmarked funds to purchase 14 new ventilators, and seven others were sanctioned during the Nipah outbreak. Now, the government has sanctioned two more worth ₹28 lakh.
