BENGALURU: With the Karnataka government deciding to put restrictions around Vidhan Soudha, Udyog Soudha and Lokayukta offices from August 1 - you can’t go near these offices - tongues have started wagging about "the freedom of press" within the opposition as well as the coalition partner Congress.

As the government has declared the area around Vidhan Soudha (Assembly) a high security zone, the administrative activities are going far away from people. It is said due to middlemen around, administration work becomes difficult.

"Media men come anytime and from anywhere with the mike, which is affecting the work too," CM HD Kumaraswamy said two days back.

The government's decision to curb the media through this act has not gone down well with the Congress.

"It is not good to curb media people’s entry into Vidhan Soudha. The Congress always respects the freedom of press. I hope the CM will not take this decision," said KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao.

Deputy CM Dr G Parameshwar says: It is decided to announce Vidhana Soudha and surrounding area as administrative district. We don't curb the entry of public. We just wan’t to limit people's movement unnecessarily; and also for security purpose, police department suggested this."
