Even as the party cadre was still confused about whether the Congresss would go it alone or allign with some like-minded party in the 2019 general elections, state Congress chief Raj Babbar is set to announce the chiefs of district and city units. Rumours are rife that at least half of the districts including Lucknow would see a massive overhaul. Besides, Babbar is also set to form a new UP Congress Committee (UPCC) attaching priority to youngsters.

While there are indicationa that Congress chief Rahul Gandhi may relocate Babbar and entrust him with some other responsibility, Babbar is expected to make the changes by July end.

Sources confirmed that All India Congress Committee (AICC)general secretary and UP in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad is also likely to be replaced by Sonia Gandhi’s close lieutenant Ahmed Patel.

A senior Congress leader confirmed on Thursday that Babbar was busy finalizing names of district and city Congress chiefs and was expected to give priority to youths. He even claimed that some present district and city chiefs, who were young and active, could also be replaced as Babbar wanted to bring in some of his confidfantes as district in-charges and also in UPCC.

Sources claimed that Babbar was also preparing a list of those senior leaders who were opposing his actions, particularly in re-organising media committee wherein majority of old faces were discarded. A leader close to Babbar said that all such leaders will not find their names in the re-organised UPCC.
