Awareness through films and talks

more-in

The school bus that the Greater Chennai Police Commissionerate has given to each of the nine police districts, which include Anna Nagar, T. Nagar, Adyar, St. Thomas Mount and Ambattur, to create awareness about safety of children and women, visits at least one neighbourhood in the region every week.

As part of the awareness campaign, children are taught about "good and bad touch" and provided with all other information that they need to know to stay safe.

They are also taught how to use social media and mobile phones wisely and avoid its many pitfalls.

When it visits a government school, the awareness bus screens films through which children can easily understand the issue of child sexual abuse. A ten-minute short film tiled Komal by the Childline India Foundation that throws light on child sexual abuse and how to prevent it, is a constant.

Following the awareness session, children are provided with slips that explain aspects of child sexual abuse. Children are expected to mark 'yes' or 'no' to questions on whether they had undergone similar things.

Based on the responses, affected children, if any, are given counselling by an certified counsellor.
