District administrations across Telangana swing into action as Mission Bhagiratha deadline approaches

The state government aims to supply drinking water through pipelines to every household in the state from August 15.

With August 10, set by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao as the deadline for completion of all works pertaining to Mission Bhagiratha, just around the corner, the district administrations across the state have swung into action and directed the officials concerned to finish the work on war footing.

To meet the deadline, it has barred all those officials involved in the project from taking leave. All the officials are on the field and are exerting pressure on the contractors to finish the works in time.

The state government aims to supply drinking water through pipelines to every household in the state from August 15. The mammoth scheme envisages supply of 100 litres of piped drinking water per head in all villages and 135 litres in all urban areas of the state.

Warangal

72 km pipelines  yet to be laid in the  dist

In Warangal Urban district, pipelines are to be laid for a total length of 352.47 km but have been laid only for about 280.41 km so far. Thus, pipelines for a length of 72 km need to be laid in just about two weeks. Collector Amrapali Kata, at a recent review meeting, asked officials to expedite the pipeline works. The government is spending Rs 1,335 crore on supplying drinking water through pipelines to 205 segments of the district and another Rs 66 crore on intra-village works. Officials claim that most work on bulk water pipelines has been completed and only intra-village pipeline work is pending

Mahbubnagar

Works in 690 villages still pending

In Mahbubnagar too officials are under a lot of pressure to finish the work on time. Piped drinking water will be supplied to 3,422 villages in the undivided Mahbubnagar, Rangareddy and Vikarabad districts at a cost of `5,953 crore. Officials selected ten reservoirs and made an allocation of 13.522 tmcft of water for the purpose. Work in 323 villages in Jogulamba Gadwal district has been completed and the authorities are ready to supply drinking water as scheduled. Work in 690 out of 1,201 villages has been completed

Sangareddy

Only 21 tanks have been built so far

Work is progressing at a rapid pace in the district. There are 2,661 residential areas and officials have diverted bulk water to 2,314 of them. Water grid officials said that they have diverted bulk water to 865 villages of the total number of 949 villages in the district. Though arrangements for direct supply of bulk water to villages are over, construction of overhead tanks is pending- only 21 have been completed till now. Minister T Harish Rao has asked officials to expedite  the work

Adilabad

7o% works yet to be completed 

In the erstwhile Adilabad district, 70 per cent of pipeline-laying and construction of overhead water tanks awaits completion. The undivided district area has 3,625 habitations and a major part of the work in 1,414 habitations is in progress. The current Adilabad district has 1,175 habitations and work with regard to 466 has been completed
