Mumbai: A 17-year-old boy studying in Ramkali Sanman Singh Junior College, Bhandup, was stabbed to death by a group of minors from the same college on Thursday afternoon. One of the accused was allegedly in love with the girlfriend of the deceased.
Sushil Kumar Verma, 17, an HSC science student, was in his classroom when one of the accused, whose face was covered with a handkerchief, called him outside the classroom for a discussion. Verma accompanied the accused outside the college premises. An altercation broke out between the two and the accused stabbed him five-six times on his chest and near his waist with a knife. When Verma failed to show up in class even after 30 minutes, his friends began to look for him, only to find him lying in a pool of blood outside the college. His friends immediately informed a college professor, who rushed Verma to Rajawadi Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Bhandup Police have been questioning Verma’s friends to determine the motive for the murder. According to Srinivas Panhale, senior police inspector, Bhandup Police, “We have detained two minor accused and the remaining minor accused are wanted. I cannot disclose the number of wanted accused. We are checking CCTV footage inside and outside the college premises to identify the other culprits. We have so far questioned six college friends of Verma. Prima facie, it appears that the accused killed Verma since the minor accused was in love with Verma’s girlfriend. However, it was a case of unrequited love.” Police are also questioning Verma’s family. Verma is a resident of Bhandup. The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) for murder (Section 302) and common intention (Section 34) of the Indian Penal Code.
