The city police have been granted five days custody of the suspects who were arrested in connection with the rape of a 11-year-old girl.
Following the complaint made by the victim’s mother, that her child was repeatedly raped by several men working in the apartment complex, the All Women Police of Ayanavaram arrested 18 persons, including Ravikumar, 56, the lift operator, on July 17.
The offenders were booked under Sections 307 (Attempt to murder), 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 5 (Punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault), 10 (Punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) and 12 (Punishment for Sexual harassment) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
The police also conducted identification parade on the prison campus on Wednesday and the investigation officer moved an application seeking custodial interrogation.
Mahila court judge Manjula went to the prison and heard both sides on Thursday and granted the police custody for five days, the police said.
