Vadodara: M S University’s Department of Architecture will not be able to offer master in urban and regional planning (MURP) course to students this year due to a legal hurdle.
Officials suggest that Gujarat High Court recently issued an order stating that all universities and colleges should take the Admission Committee for Professional Couses (ACPC) route to grant admission to students in professional courses.
The High Court issued the order after a student Sandip Munjyasara filed a PIL against Raksha Shakti University stating that the latter was bypassing ACPC – the centralised admission process – for granting admission in professional courses.
The student had also sought intervention of the High Court to ensure that the Gujarat Forensic Science University follows the centralised admission process for the professional courses stating that the current admission process is in violation of the provision of the Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fees Act.
“The High Court has asked all the state universities to follow the ACPC route. Presently, fees of the self-financed courses offered by our university are decided by the Higher Payment Board. After the directive of the High Court, we had to cancel the admission process for the masters programme for the current academic year,” confirmed Vijay Matai, head of the Department of Architecture.
