The Puducherry unit of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) has justified the demand for Statehood for Puducherry since an elected government would be able to discharge its duties without any practical difficulties.
AMMK state secretary Velmurugan told presspersons here on Thursday that the alleged interference by Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi would disappear as soon as Puducherry was granted Statehood.
The AMMK did not approve of the interference by the Centre and Ms. Bedi in the working of the elected government. He pointed out that the delay on the part of the Congress in finalising the list of candidates had resulted in the current chaos with the BJP jumping into the fray and nominating its own functionaries as MLAs.
The long delay on the part of the Congress government in fulfilling the expectations of the people had resulted in the Lt. Governor visiting various places.
Autonomy of the elected government was more important to address the problems of the people, he added.
