Commuters are peeved at the delay in re-laying a stretch of Chennai-Thiruvallur High (CTH) Road, in front of Lucas TVS near Padi flyover, after it had been dug up by Tangedco officials to carry out cable repair work.
Tangedco has completed its work, but the State Highways Department in dragging its feet on the re-laying work, complain motorists.
Blue metal dumped on this stretch for levelling it has now spread across, posing a threat to motorcyclists. Incidents of skidding are on the rise, especially at night due to poor illumination, say motorcyclists.
“Besides, blue-metal ricochet off the tyres of moving vehicles and hit motorists and pedestrians,” says K. Satish, a resident of Korattur.
The fact that this section, which stretches from Korattur junction to Lucas TVS, is considerably narrow does not help matters.
A few months ago, a footpath on the stretch, towards Ambattur, was dug up for laying cables. Despite completion of the work, the stretch was not levelled. Residents say the stretch between the two junctions must be widened and lights installed.
Every day, hundreds of vehicles pass through the stretch as it connects many residential localities in the region, which include Korattur, Kolathur, Padi, Pattaravakkam, Mannurpet, Ambattur, Ayapakkam, Annanoor and Avadi.
“Steps will be taken to re-lay the damaged portion soon,” says an official from State Highways.
