Governor takes pledge under Swachh Bharat Mission

Conveying a ‘keep your city clean and green’ message, Governor Banwarilal Purohit said all citizens should come together and take a pledge not to litter public areas, which alone would preserve the environment from getting polluted.

Addressing students, teachers and residents at R.M. Colony here, the Governor, accompanied by senior officers, took a pledge under Swahch Bharat Mission.

Every individual in the State had the responsibility to keep their environs clean. Civic officials would not be able to do it on their own. “If we stop littering, the neighbourhood will look clean.”

Sharing his own experience in the United States, way back in the mid-90s, he said no one could throw anything anywhere. “Even after drinking Coca-Cola, the container cannot be thrown on the roadside, but left only in the designated bins. For any violation, the sergeants will collect fines,” he recalled.

By keeping the surroundings clean, the medical bills that might be incurred could also be avoided. Thus, be it children or women or senior citizen, it was in their hands to preserve the ecology in good shape, Mr. Purohit said and took a pledge, which was adopted by the gathering.
