The Madurai district court has sentenced a Sub-Inspector of Police to two years imprisonment in a corruption case, on Friday.

Special Judge M. Chenkamalaselvam sentenced Sub-Inspector Jayaraj and imposed a cost of ₹2,000 on him.

Manikandan of Madurai alleged that he had lodged a complaint with Subramaniapuram police after his mobile phone was stolen by his friend Prasanna. Sub-Inspector Jayaraj, who was investigating the case, tracked the phone and retrieved it from a mobile phone shop in the city.

But he demanded money from Mr. Manikandan for returning the phone. Mr. Manikandan lodged a complaint with the DVAC, following which Jayaraj was trapped red-handed.
