The writing of Tiverton’s Claire Hagerty was honored as one of the “notable mentions” in this year’s Write Rhode Island competition

PROVIDENCE — The writing of Tiverton’s Claire Hagerty was honored as one of the “notable mentions” in this year’s Write Rhode Island competition, and she will read an excerpt from her short story during this year’s Fringe Festival at the Watefire Arts Center in Providence on Saturday, Aug. 4 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Hagerty’s story, “My Italian Grandmother,” is one of 20 picked from more than 150 submissions. Hagerty is a middle school student at the Wheeler School in Providence.

Write Rhode Island is a short fiction writing competition for Rhode Island students in grades 7-12. The goal of Write Rhode Island is to promote and celebrate the works of students by incorporating Rhode Island as a theme in a creative piece of prose.
