It was muddy delight for devotees of Lord Krishna as they gathered splashing thick mud on each other while celebrating mud bath festival, locally known as ‘Chikal Kalo’ in Goa. The traditional festival celebrated in the premises of Devaki-Krishna temple in Mercela village of North Goa is believed to be 150-years-old. The festival is celebrated a day after the Ashadhi Ekadashi, when hundreds of devotees gather to participate in mud bath and also celebrate the festival with traditional dahi-handi. The monsoon time mud bath festival is symbolic of the childhood days of Lord Krishna and it is believed that all the participants of the festival, from children to adults, take form of Lord Krishna.
