The Centre has assured to provide all immediate relief to the states affected by floods and drought. Replying to a debate in the Lok Sabha yesterday, on the recent flood and drought situation in various parts of the country, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said, no state has been discriminated in terms of funds.
He said, for Kerala where rain has created havoc, an inter-ministerial team will visit the state this week to access the situation and the government will do the needful after the team files a report.
The Minister said, 4 teams of NDRF are stationed in the state and Army and Navy have been kept in standby. He said, 21 states and union territories have been affected by rain and drought and everyone will get the due assistance. He said disaster management is a priority for the Narendra Modi led Government and in the last four years there is a quantum jump in the assistance given to states.
Intervening in the discussion, Minister of State for Agriculture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said, so far 30 per cent area has received more than average rainfall, 47 per cent area average rainfall and 23 per cent area has received less than average rainfall. He said last week of this month is expected to receive good rainfall.
The Minister expressed hope that the country will be able to achieve the food grain target if monsoon remains as per expectation. He also said, 10 crore farmers have got compensation and over 26 thousand crore rupees have been disbursed under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
