The Government of Goa has earmarked a budget of Rs 25 crore to prepare the state teams for the 36th National Games to be hosted by Goa in 2019. The SAG has sent the draft policy – which has been approved by the government in principle – to all the State associations and is waiting for their feedback till Saturday.

“Most associations have concurred with the policy. There was a request to give an honorarium to members of the associations but the same has not been accepted as the policy is for the development of sportspeople and not association members,” stated a highly placed source in SAG.

Apart from financial aid to each sports association recognized by SAG before the start of the national games, the SAG has plans to financially reward each association that wins medals for the state during the Game.

Each athlete will be given Rs 350 per day as diet allowance and Rs 100 per day as travelling allowance for day camps and Rs 650 per day per athlete as diet charges in residential camps with an allowance of Rs 100 for travelling. Rs 500 per months will be paid to each athlete as First Aid allowance.

The SAG will be distributing Rs 10,000 per athlete, out of which 50% will be transferred directly to the athlete’s account for purchase of personal kit and 50% will be given to Goa Olympic Association (GOA) for purchase of complete uniform. ACII tier train transport will be provided in case camps are held out of Goa due to non availability of good training facilities in Goa.

The SAG has plans to purchase sports equipment and consumables to Associations if they are provided with a consolidated list of sports equipment with the quantity required.

The SAG has decided to pay remunerations to coaches being specially appointed by State Associations in preparations for the Games. Coaches of high priority sports will be paid Rs two lakh for a specialist coach and Rs one lakh per month for the chief coach and Rs 50,000 per month for other coaches.
