The city is all set to host a three-day International Blockchain Congress (IBC) beginning August 3.
With organisers touting it the first event of its kind in the country on the emerging technology, the IBC, they said, will witness the participation of over 3,000 persons, including blockchain experts and innovators.
Speaking at the event curtain-raiser, Nucleus Vision founderand chief executive officer Abhishek Pittie said, “The new form of technology is an emerging frontier for blockchain globally. It will revolutionise the business and creates trust in the system.” He said the company believes India has all strengths to become a global leader in ‘this space’.
Taking questions from the media, IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said keeping in line with the Centre’s stand on blockchain-powered cryptocurrencies, the Telangana government too does not recognise them as valid currencies.
“The Union IT Minister on multiple occasions has announced that India has not permitted bitcoin in an official way. The State government’s stand is no different. Our stand is that we have to wait and watch cryptocurrencies: what is happening, regulations and mechanism,” Mr. Ranjan said and pointed out that ‘tech-gurus’ were divided on the issue.
Several MoUs are expected to be signed at the IBC, including adoption of blockchain by the State departments, the details of which would be given at the event.
While the first two days of the IBC will be organised at HICC in the city, the third day will be hosted in Goa.
