Across many cultures, including India, lunar eclipse is considered harmful for pregnant women. It is believed that it can affect the well being of the foetus, leading to physical deformity, or ugly birthmarks. While there is no scientific proof to validate its affect, the belief is so strongly engraved in our minds that a pregnant woman and her family naturally worry for her well being.


It is said that if a pregnant woman gets exposed to the moon while the eclipse is underway, she is prone to the harmful effects. Therefore, she is advised to stay indoor.

Many superstitions back the theory that a pregnant woman must do the following in order to avoid the negativity of the eclipse. They are:

- Avoid use of a sharp object like scissors, needles
- Avoid eating anything during eclipse
- Get ample rest during the eclipse duration
- Do not allow outside rays indoor
- Take a shower once the eclipse is over
- Do not cook anything during the eclipse
- Do not drink water during the eclipse

Remember, that there is no scientific data to back uphealthfitne the above dos and don'ts. Make sure that you stay hydrated and don't go without food for long hours as it can make you feel weak and cause acidity.

This is a rare Blood Red Moon which will be seen tomorrow for the first time in 36 years.
