NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party
MLA Amanatullah Khan on Thursday admitted his son and daughter, who were studying in a private school, to Joga Bai government school in Okhla. His son was admitted in class IX and daughter in Joga Bai girls school in class VI. Since their childhood, they were studying in a private school. Khan, who became the second
AAP MLA to pull out his children from private school and admit them in a government school, said he took the decision after the government schools’ performance improved.
“I have taken the decision because the education standards of the Delhi government schools have gone up. I also want to remove the biases that envelop people's minds against sending their children to government-run schools,” said Khan.
CM Arvind Kejriwal called the step extraordinary. “A big certificate of how Delhi government’s schools are improving. Before him, another MLA, Gulab Singh, had admitted his kids in government schools,” said Kejriwal on Twitter.
“I took the decision after consulting my children and family members. My children were studying in a private school since nursery classes. It is for the first time that I decided to change their school. They are happy to study in government schools. I believe my children will have better education in the new school," said Khan, who is MLA from Okhla.
The MLA’s children have chosen English as the medium of instruction. “The school has both English and Hindi as mediums of instructions,” he said.
Atishi Marlena, the former advisor to education minister Manish Sisodia, said the schools where the MLA admitted his children had an excellent academic performance this year. “The step will inspire people to send their children to government schools which have undergone a lot of changes. Infrastructure has improved besides the quality of education as the AAP has placed education in top priority area after it came to power,” she said.
