Tirupur: A knitwear exporter here has approached police demanding action against an Italian woman, who allegedly cheated him of Rs 25 lakh.
In his complaint, R Krishna Moorthy of Kunngalpalayam Pirivu said he had shipped garments including men’s and women’s pyjamas to an Italian buyer in October 2017. “We conducted the order through an Italian agent, who is staying in Kaliyappa Nagar in Tirupur. But she failed to clear customs charges. As a result, the goods kept in a port in Italy will likely be destroyed as it has not been cleared on time. Moreover, demurrage will cost more than the goods value,” the complaint said. The Italian agent has cheated several other exporters and police should intervene to get his payment, the complaint added.TNN
