₹11.90 cr allocated for relief work

₹5 cr to be distributed in relief camps

The State government has sanctioned ₹11.90 crore for relief works in flood-hit areas in the district.

Officials said that ₹5 crore had been handed over to tahsildars for distribution among people in relief camps. People who spent a day in relief camp will be given ₹1,000, while ₹2,800 will be provided to people who spent two or more days in a camp. A maximum financial assistance of ₹3,000 will be given to a family, officials said. The fund was sanctioned from the relief fund of the State government.

Separate medical teams have been deployed in different parts of the district to provide medical care and to prevent epidemic outbreak. Special medical teams have been given ₹11 lakh.

Meanwhile, Public Works Department officials said that the Irrigation Department had started efforts to drain out water from the waterlogged Alappuzha-Changanassery (AC) Road.

“The Irrigation Department has started the reconstruction of bunds damaged in floods. Pumping has also been commenced to drain water from the road. We hope to make the road motorable in four days,” said an official.

The Agriculture Department will conduct panchayat-level adalats to compensate farmers in Kuttanad who suffered losses in the rain.

District Collector S. Suhas has declared a holiday for all educational institutions including professional colleges in the Kuttanad taluk on Friday.
