The Nadukani Dalam of the Communist Party of India (Maoists) has denied the allegation that a few members of the organisation detained some guest workers employed at an estate at Thollayiram, near Meppadi, in Wayanad on July 20 evening.

In a release that reached the Wayanad Press Club via post on Thursday, one Ajitha, who claimed as the spokesperson of the dalam, said a four-member squad of the Nadukani area committee visited the workers from West Bengal engaged in construction works at a resort at Thollayiram as part of their routine village visit.

She refuted the police claim that a four-member armed group, including a woman, detained three guest workers at the site and left after looting rice and other provisions there.

The Maoists behaved in a friendly manner and asked the workers about the pathetic life they were leading at the site and asked their opinion about an alternative political system put forward by Maoists, she said in the release that was posted at the Meppadi post office a few days ago.

A worker among them went to a nearby resort in the pretext of offering prayers. He informed the manager about the armed group and the latter informed the police. The group stayed at the site till 9 p.m. to meet the Malayali workers there, she said. Later, the members left the site after they learnt that the police would reach the spot.
