Six youth who conquered Mount Everest on May 16 were felicitated by the Siddhartha institutions in city on Thursday. Responding to an invite by the Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education (SAGTE), the youth visited the institutions (medical college, law college, engineering colleges and the V.P. Siddhartha School) and shared their experiences with the students.
Anmish Varma from Visakhapatnam, Asha Kiran Rani from Srikakulam, Sk. Imam Shah from Ongole, Suryaprakash from Nellore, K. Raja from Guntur and Varaprasad from Chittoor, who were sponsored by the Andhra Pradesh Department of Youth Services, had started on their expedition from the city on April 9 and returned to a heroes’ welcome on June 5. In the interactive sessions, they shared the the tips given by their coaches and guides and well-wishers for the expedition. “I was worried about their health as they reached high altitude,” said U. Raghunadh Reddy, team manager who accompanied the climbers till the base camp and from where he monitored their well being.
“Climbing the Everest is never a competition. It is a solo battle and one must keep that in mind,” he said.
