HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MP AP Jithender Reddy (Mahbubnagar) demanded that the Central government should give more funds to the state government for irrigation projects and water conservation mission.

Participating in a debate in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Jithender Reddy explained the drought situation in Telangana, the less rainfall and other aspects. He also talked about Mission Kakatiya programme and the construction of irrigation projects. Reddy said that there were several aspects where the state needed the support of the Central government.

Reddy pointed out that in 2015-16, as many as 231 mandals of Telangana were declared as drought-affected areas. “We had claimed Rs 2,000 crore as damages for the crops but the Central government had sanctioned only Rs 702.71 crore. But this year, we still have got time and by October we will assess the drought situation,” Jithender Reddy said.

Meanwhile, Bhongir TRS MP Boora Narasaiah Goud said in the Lok Sabha that Swachh Bharat should be taken up in a mission mode by involving the state government and the Centre should also allocate adequate funds.

Zaheerabad TRS MP Bheemrao B Patil wanted more Ekalavya model residential schools in Zaheerabad Lok Sabha segment. “Almost seven to eight mandals in Telangana and AP constitute a block but proposals are still being rejected on the ground that the tribal population is below 20,000 in the mandals in Telangana State,” Patil said.
