Google Cloud Next 2018 is where the world’s leading developers and those passionate about the future of cloud computing come together. Abhinav Kejriwal is attending the conference in San Fransico and will be sending daily updates on the challenges, solutions, ideas, and game-changing technologies being talked about at the conference.

Day 2 highlights

  • Keynote address main remarks:
    • Today, one of the main concerns for customers and prospective clients is security

90% of all email attacks start with phishing attacks, which Gmail essentially wipes out

  • Another concern is finding the right information at the right time — That’s where things are made easier with info-sharing and databases

  • Go Transform — Google Cloud’s Business Transformation Program, led by Brice Challamel & Eamonn Ward:
    • Evolution is a fact. Transformation is a mindset
    • Evolution comes in waves
      • Take the 1450s — the era of printing, which was followed by electricity, and then computation
      • Cloud is the next big wave
    • The Danger of How & The Power of Why
    • Radical innovation in Business, Technology, and Culture comprise Business Transformation
      • From a business perspective, focus on the user
      • From a technology perspective, think 10x (e.g. consider that cars were invented because Ford wanted 10 times the speed of a horse, not just double or triple)
      • From a culture perspective, give the freedom to innovate

      • Dialogue is an important part of learning. So, a ‘virtual tutor’, developed by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, can draw from social knowledge of students’ facial expressions, body language, rapport with the tutor, and so on.
      • Analytics & ML will transform education
        • We need a LHC for higher-education, because we need to have theories and research on “how we learn
        • AutoML & Vision API
          • Litterati — Company building a global database of all litter in the world
          • OpenDoor — Company that aims to disrupt the housing industry by making it very easy for owners to sell their house

            • Driving Culture Change:
              • Big decisions are never made in big rooms with lots of people
              • Celebrate the colossal failures once a week
              • Oscar Wilde — Be yourself because others are taken
              • Education and integrity can never be taken away
              • Lead the change head on with compassion
              • You need to be the change
