‘Government siding with illegal traders’

The women wing of the YSR Congress Party gave an ultimatum to the State government that they would resort to destroying belt shops and illegal liquor stores if action is not taken in 15 days.

Party MLA representing Nagari constituency R.K. Roja, official spokesperson Vasireddy Padma and other women wing leaders on Wednesday sought to highlight the issue by breaking beer bottles outside the State headquarters of the Prohibition & Excise (P&E) Department.

Ms. Roja said the TDP government which has failed to curb belt shops in the State, is encouraging their men to run illegal wine shops.

She alleged that a TDP leader who was convicted of bootlegging in 2012, has been given all privileges to run the liquor business from unauthorised premises in the Nagari Municipality.

To move HC

“If this is the situation in my constituency in which a local body is headed by a woman, one can imagine what is happening in the State. We will move the High Court and destroy all illegal shops at the village level if the government fails to end the menace in 15 days,” she warned.
