Police swoop to capture final Greenough prison escapee Bradley Silvester
Police have captured the last of the inmates who escaped from Greenough Regional Prison on Tuesday.
Bradley Silvester, 35, was among 10 prisoners who escaped from the prison near Geraldton in WA's Mid West on Tuesday afternoon.
He was captured hiding in bushes in the suburb of Glenfield, just north of Geraldton on Thursday morning.
Seven News reporter Kate Smithers was on the scene as Silvester was captured.
"They've found him lying underneath bushes," Ms Smithers told 6PR Mornings.
"About seven different police officers pounced on him screaming 'we've got him, we've got him.'
"They've pulled him out, he's changed his clothes, he's out of his prison greens."
In a statement, police said: "At approximately 8.40am this morning Bradley Silvester was located in Glenfield and was taken into custody without further incident. Many thanks for the assistance from the public."
Geraldton Police had earlier reported Silvester had been seen on Wednesday evening "in the vicinity of the 440 Road House" on the North Western Highway, north of Geraldton.
An extra 150 officers were sent to Geraldton on Wednesday to help search for the 10 escapees.
After seven escapees were found in the area, Brendan Bartley, 22, and Darryl Councillor, 18, handed themselves in to local police.
The 10 men broke out after a riot, which Prison Officers' Union acting secretary Paul Ledingham said went for hours and was finally contained early on Wednesday.
"It's utter devastation," Mr Ledingham told reporters on Wednesday.
"We've seen staff control rooms — supposedly secure areas for staff — smashed, destroyed and in one case burnt, fully burnt out."
Residents and drivers were warned to not approach the 10 men and were urged to lock their doors and windows.
More to come.
